Day 3 Morgan to Cordola Campground

Day 3 Morgan to Cordola Campground 20 km

Breakfast and coffee at the roadhouse as suggested by the barmaid at the Commercial Hotel last night. It is the only thing open at 6:00 am. The store keeper was being harassed by a local who having coffee, a stubby of beer and a cigarette when we arrived. The store keeper was doing his best to ignore him - excellent bacon and egg roll and coffee.

We launched while chatting to a couple from Darwin that had chatted with us last night. Apparently the Terminus Hotel was the more lively choice last night. They are down here to help out on the family farm during harvest.

It was a windless sunny morning and it was very comfortable paddling. The wind did arrive but was never as strong as the previous 2 days. For 18 km out of Morgan the west bank is lined with holiday houses, very few were occupied at the moment. There were some where there was gardening and maintenance occurring.

After 2 and half hours there was no place to get out as it was all private property. Eventually we found a small boat ramp on an unoccupied block and we hopped out for some biscuits. We had come 15 km.

Earlier in the morning we had discussed stopping early and taking the afternoon off. I know my shoulders were feeling tired from the exertions of the previous 2 days. The wind has taken its toll. We paddled on around Pelican Point and came to Cordola Campground. After chatting to a young woman fishing on the bank we found the campground extended along the bank as well as behind on a lagoon.

We pulled up on a boat ramp and explored the area. There were some campsites that would have suited us although they were too close to other campers for my likely. I persuaded Simon to hop back in the kayak to and follow me down further. Eventually I found a site that I was happy with. I had made Simon a little grumpy in the process as he was happy with the sites we found earlier.

We had lunch of crackers and cheese with hard boiled eggs and cup-a-soup and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing in the sun and shade. The wind seemed to come and go intermittently.
