Day 0 Melbourne to Waikerie

Waikerie is almost as far away from home as you can get on the Murray so getting there is a major effort. Simon arrived at my house at 6:05 am. I had already packed the car and loaded my kayak on the roof. Simon transferred his gear to the my car and we were on the way.

We rolled into Waikerie in 5:00 pm after driving through strong winds and dust. At times the wind was blowing 45 kph and buffeting the car.

We made a number of stops for comfort breaks and to take pictures of silo art and lizards.

Lunch was in a cafe in Murrayville just near the SA border. We had an interesting conversation with a local farmer religious nut job. It was hilarious because I had been taking the p!$$ out of religion only half an hour earlier.

The wind meant camping had limited appeal - not having booked a cabin we ended up in a premium cabin above our usual budget. We shopped for the next few days and went to the pub for dinner.
